Just call me Lorn!

This week was a busy one so I didn’t watch too many shows, but I carved out time for the second to last episode of Revenge, which was insane. The finale airs this Sunday and I can’t wait. If you watch Revenge, please tell me you’re also freaking out about what’s going to happen! I’ve been on a frozen yogurt kick lately and have to exercise some serious self-control from having it every day. But that’s just one of the perks of warmer weather, right? Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

BIRTHDAYS: Audrey Hepburn’s birthday was this week. In honor of what would have been her 86th birthday, here are 10 things you may not have known about Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

GLUTEN-FREE: May is Celiac Disease Awareness Month and I had the chance to interview the founder of Tu-Lu’s Gluten-Free Bakery for Carpe Juvenis. Check it out (especially if you want to have your own bakery one day)!

GO SOLO: Why you should go to the movies alone (it’s actually pretty nice).

QUIZ: How many of these teen bedrooms from film do you recognize? I got 93%.

SUMMER MOVIES: Looks like there will be a lot of great performances to look forward to this summer.

DR. SEUSS: Green Eggs and Ham is coming to Netflix, partly in thanks to Ellen Degeneres who is one of the show’s executive producers.

FRIENDSHIP: 25 famous women discuss the realities and complexities of female friendship.

TRAVEL: There is an apartment at the top of the Eiffel Tower that you can now see.

MARVEL KNOWS WOMEN: Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow spoof on SNL is spot-on. So good.

HOT PURSUIT: Anne Fletcher, the director of Hot Pursuit starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara discusses her latest female-centric comedy.

Have a great weekend and a happy Mother’s Day!

Happy May! I’m back from last week’s adventure where I experienced very warm and humid weather (photo above). However, I most definitely prefer rain to humidity and admittedly missed the April showers. I crossed a few movies off my list in April, and I’m excited to watch a few new ones this month. I will get myself to the theaters. It’s been way too long since I watched a movie in a big dark room with complete strangers. In disappointing T.V. news, Revenge has been canceled – if anything I feel old because I remember watching the show when it first started when I was in college. On a positive note, there are still a lot of great shows to watch. It’s all about turning lemons into lemonade. Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

INTERVIEW: Cinematographer Alexander Chinnici discusses what it’s like being a Director of Photography and shares the films that shaped him.

HEAL YOURSELF: Bone broth is great for doing just that – it has nutrients that rebuild and rejuvenate your system. Can’t wait to try this recipe.

PUNNY FOOD: This father and son created an awesome way to teach geography with food. So clever!

WRITE: These sushi memo blocks are an adorable addition to any desk.

EAT: 10 famous foods from Seinfeld and where to eat them in New York City.

BAKE: Homemade pretzels aren’t the easiest to make, but I’m willing to try (again!).

KEEP STOCK: 20 foods you should always have in your kitchen.

ICE CREAM: Thanks to this guide, I’ll be eating ice cream sandwiches all season (okay, all year) long.

Enjoy your weekend!

grahams

I usually have some sort of sweet every day, but my treat of the moment are these chocolate covered grahams from Russ & Daughters. The chocolate is decadent, the grahams are crunchy…it’s the perfect combination. Needless to say, I’ll be going back for a whole lot more than .27 lbs worth (about 4 grahams). This week involved a lot of catching up on work and sleep due to last week’s major deadlines, and this weekend I look forward to escaping NYC for a short while (follow me here for behind-the-scenes of all things food and film). Until then, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* In honor of the Tribeca Film Festival kicking off on Wednesday (and film festival season starting!), here are 15 travel-worthy film festivals around the world.

Orange is the New Black has (already) been renewed for Season 4!

* Even astronauts need espresso.

* 10 wedding cake trends.

* The state of ramen.

* I love that there’s going to be a Wonder Woman movie. A new director was just announced for the film.

* Ice cream innovations for spring. Yum!

* HBO to Netflix: bring it on. Oh boy.

Have a relaxing weekend!

mad men notes

This weekend I’m hoping to catch up on a few movies that have just been released to rent – The Imitation Game, Big Eyes, and Wild. I didn’t have a chance to see them in theaters, but now I have the perfect excuse to load up on snacks and have a movie marathon. The photo above is from a couple of weeks ago when I went to see the Mad Men exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image – these are Matthew Weiner’s show notes. I was particularly fond of: “Thank you for letting us all see a smile usually reserved for clients.” And with that, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* This article is great. But…if I ever saw Louis C.K., I would really want to say hi.

* Love this advice about growing a business from the ground up from a chef, a baker, and a chocolate maker.

* Bring me to London now please.

* This tweet though

* These food cinemagraphs are captivating.

* ‘Lumiere! Inventing Cinema’ celebrates the birth of movies in Paris.

* Jeni Britton Bauer is awesome.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The weather has officially turned and it’s so enjoyable walking around the city. There’s no better time to walk around New York City than when the skies are blue and the air is crisp. This weekend I’ll be heading to a friend’s house for Passover – I’m excited to learn about new cultures, eat new food, and make new friends. Whether you’re celebrating Passover or Easter or something completely unrelated, have a happy weekend. For now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* These crepe cakes are beautiful. I’m going to have to work on my crepe-making skills.

* An interesting read about Hollywood food stylists and their work. Movie magic at its finest.

* Why vending machines are so popular in Japan.

* 20 recipes to get you excited for spring.

* How adorable are these robin’s egg blue mini cakes?

* This food hall in Midtown is going to be fantastic. Open now, please.

Winnie the Pooh as a live-action movie? My inner child is jumping up and down with joy.

* Looking forward to watching this new Netflix series.

Pac Man Cookies

This week I finished up the first half of Mad Men Season 7, and now I am even more excited for the second half of the season to air next week. I also went to visit an exhibit that had a couple of sets from the show, as well as many of the characters’ costumes, script notes, and props (more on this next week!). If you haven’t seen Mad Men yet, you’ve got a little over a week to watch all of the episodes on Netflix. Go ahead and binge watch, which would be made infinitely better with these Pac-Man cookies. Until then, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Every Tom Hanks movie in seven minutes.

* Because even astronauts get cravings in space!

* Where are all of the good meet-cute places in NYC anymore?

* Things you never knew about Pretty Woman.

* Sushi lovers, this is your dream towel.

* This happens to me way too often.

* Amazing women in the director’s chair.

* All I’m craving now are these.

* Don’t forget to follow me for more behind-the-scenes!

Have a great weekend filled with food and film!

Coffee

This week required a lot of coffee breaks. I know, I’m not much of a coffee person and I blogged about matcha on Monday – but…this week was tiring! I’m not alone here, right? This weekend will require catching up on sleep and watching a couple of movies, that’s for sure. Until there’s time to rest, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Follow me here for food, film, and behind-the-scenes!

Mad Men’s Matthew Weiner made his cast and crew watch these movies, so now I am adding them to my list.

* Netflix and spoiler alerts.

* One word, seven letters: waffles.

* 57 things you can do to be a better cook. So helpful!

* Diamonds (filled with cocktails!) are a girl’s best friend.

Seinfeld never stops winning.

* An interview with a food blogger and E! News Producer.

Have a wonderful weekend!

greentea

The snow just keeps on falling, and nothing sounds better than curling up under a blanket with loads of snacks and watching movies all day long. Daylight savings is this weekend and I couldn’t be more ready for brighter evenings. Spring is near (even though it certainly doesn’t feel like it). As long as I have a matcha latte (a new discovery!) by my side, everything will be okay. And now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* When Harry Met Sally and glorious New York City.

* Rethinking season strategy when it comes to movie releases.

* If you’re stuck at the airport this snowy season, these are the best ones to be stuck at.

* This may be the most impressive apple pie I’ve ever seen.

* A great article for you Wes Anderson fans.

* Larry David’s humor is everything.

Have a warm weekend!

That’s a Wrap!

constellations

I can hardly believe my absence here, but I am making more of an effort to get more posts up! Though I haven’t been blogging (I’ve been focusing more on my other website), I have been watching a lot of movies and eating a lot of food, as per usual. I recently watched Birdman, The Theory of Everything, Terms of Endearment, and re-watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (which I swear gets funnier each time I watch it).

I also recently saw the play Constellations (photo above) with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson. It was one of the greatest love stories I’ve seen. It showed the story of these two characters in a variety of ways, demonstrating how in different ‘universes’ we could have several encounters with one another. Our moods, circumstances, timing, location, etc. all play a role in our interactions with one another. The play explored how time is an illusion. It was thought-provoking, heartbreaking, and powerful. Also, very well acted. I was completely absorbed. And now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

*  Larry David is coming to Broadway.

* How movie posters survived the digital age.

* This graphic designer who made all the props for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel did an amazing job.

* The charm of Eataly.

* What does your favorite New York City restaurant say about you?

* In NYC and want to learn how to make macarons?

What are you up to this weekend? Have a lovely one!

lafayette fall

Last week my sister and I had breakfast at Lafayette, and it was the best way to start the day. So many great flavors in our dishes, and the restaurant is charming. This was the bakery’s autumn set-up (above) – could it look any more autumn? Insert hearty-eyed emoji. I still need to see Birdman, and haven’t really been catching up on all of my favorite shows. Once Upon a Time and Revenge are becoming priorities since the storylines have gotten very tangled and unpredictable. I can’t believe Halloween is in a week. While I love the holidays and autumn, I weirdly don’t actually do much to celebrate Halloween. This might have to change next year. Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Excited to read this book. Also, what an amazing cover.

* The temperature dropped suddenly, so this recipe has my name all over it.

* These salty oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies look like perfection. Ina Garten can do no wrong.

* Maybe this is why I developed a serious love for food at such an early age.

* Tom Hanks wrote a story for The New Yorker.

* Behind-the-scenes of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

* The glamorous gowns and women of Oscar de la Renta.

* Dexter becomes Hedwig. Amazing.

* I can’t get over how delicious these look.

Have a fun weekend!
