That’s a Wrap!

This has been one jam-packed week in terms of movies. My favorites that I watched this week were Charade (1963) and Love Story (1970). Love Story was absolutely heartbreaking, and it’s such a smart, well-done movie. I love Jenny’s confidence and sass. If you haven’t yet seen it, I highly recommend it for the weekend. It’s currently on Netflix Instant, score! While I watched mostly classics this past week, I’m hoping to catch up on a few of the more recent releases. I’m still working on building up my endurance for The Wolf of Wall Street. I finally got back into the kitchen this week (to make this), and it felt amazing. Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Catching up on reading in the morning with a perfect poppy-seed muffin (photo above).

* It feels like summer with a big bowl of red cherries (2nd photo).

* Mindy Kaling’s Harvard Law School commencement speech.

* The Secret Life of Walter Mitty & LIFE covers.

* How Katz Deli makes their pastrami sandwiches.

* Amy Poehler’s Yes Please memoir book cover. Yes!

* I love a great infographic, especially when it is food-related.

* Pouring yourself too much wine? Here’s why.

* Life lessons from Starbucks’ Howard Schultz.

* The New York Times recipe collection.

* The best surfaces for kitchen countertops.

*What an adorable DIY Donut Rug.

* Just another reason why Drew Barrymore is awesome.

Have a wonderful weekend!

That’s a Wrap!

Happy Oscars weekend! Since I haven’t yet watched the movies nominated for Best Picture, that is what tomorrow and Sunday will be for. I recently saw The Lego Movie, which is super cute and killing it at the box office. I attempted to make these cupcakes, but they turned out with a muffin-like consistency. In addition to the Oscars, I’ll be researching Southern recipes for Mardi Gras, which is next Tuesday! For now, though, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Mid-morning pick-me-ups are better when they have designs [above].

* B.J. Novak’s book trailer for One More ThingMindy kills it in this video, and so far, the book is laugh out loud worthy.

* Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling interview each other and it’s amazing.

* The Oscars are this weekend! Time really crept up…still haven’t made it through my movie list.

* Obsessed with this DIY Dinosaur serving dish!

* I love these two together. The last couple of seconds are the best. My favorite part starts at 2:48.

* Now that we’re on the topic, this is one of the cutest songs from a movie.

Have a great weekend! May the Best Picture win…

That’s a Wrap!

This was a great food week. From discovering new restaurants to munching on sweet treats, I love a week that involves trying new food. While I spent a lot of time eating, I haven’t had the time to catch up on my T.V. shows or any movies, so I’m hoping this weekend will involve some down time to veg out on the couch. Until that breather, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Obsessed with the design on these chocolate wrappers.

* Tried Drew Barrymore’s wine for the first time.

* Loved these mini fonuts – post coming next week!

* Hiking on a cloudy morning.

* SNL skits about food.

* Which candy bar is your favorite?

I hope you have a great weekend!

In the Spotlight: Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore

When I think of romantic comedies, I think of Drew Barrymore. She is the Queen of RomComs! Therefore, she is perfect to spotlight in February, where every night is romcom night. Or maybe that’s just me. Also, her birthday is this Friday (February 22). The February spotlight suits her.

I’ve always been a Drew Barrymore fan because she is not afraid to be herself and she is hilarious. She can really deliver the emotion in each and every film she stars in. My absolute favorites include Never Been Kissed (1999), Charlie’s Angels (2003), Fever Pitch (2005), and Going the Distance (2010). If Drew is in a film, you can bet I’ll see it with enthusiasm.

Recently, she came out with her own affordable makeup line at Walmart called Flower. An inspiring entrepreneur, actress, and woman, Drew Barrymore will always be a favorite. What are your favorite Drew Barrymore films?

Working Hard or Hardly Working

When I am swamped with work, sometimes I need a little pick-me-up in the shape and form of a movie. There are many women — both real and fictional — to look up to, but when I compile my quick list of movies with standout stars, this is what I come up with. These are light-hearted movies (and TV show), and 4 of the 5 women are writers/producers/journalists, something I feel I can relate to. The 5th woman (Mandy Moore in Because I Said So) is a food caterer. No matter what their profession, these women gain strength from their mistakes, learn to adapt, and embrace who they are and what they want to become.
