German Bratwurst nyc street fair

This was a great food week, to say the least. From apple picking in the Hudson Valley to German Bratwursts at a street fair to a late night Italian street festival, there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of delicious food in the past seven days. The Emmy Awards are this weekend, so that’ll be the major event for Sunday (and of course, the Seahawks game!). We’re slowly making our way toward Awards Season.  Until then, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

MOVIE THEATER PRETZELS: These beloved theater snacks might become a thing of the past.

WHAT DO YOU HEAR?: The art of sound in movies. The sound of rain is actually bacon frying.

BIO-PICS: The difficulty of making movies about geniuses.

READ OR WATCH: 10 books that are nothing like their film adaptations.

OH! THE HORROR: Horror films are the best deal in Hollywood.

FALL BUCKET LIST: Recipes to make this season.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Jamaica Jerk Chicken.

Have a lovely weekend!

yhh and bon appetit

Happy September! The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. On a totally unrelated food and film note, my sister and I released our first book, Youth’s Highest Honor. Getting it out into the world and promoting it has taken up a lot of time and energy, but it’s all worth it and I’m excited to finally share it with you. I’ll be taking the weekend to rest and catch up on movies. For now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

FOOD STYLING: An interview with a seriously talented food stylist and photographer.

HISTORY LESSON: The secret history of women in television.

SOCIALLY GOOD: How the social mission of Ben & Jerry’s survived being gobbled up.

BREAKING OLD-SCHOOL RULES: These female showrunners are changing the game.

COMING THIS FALL: Mindy Kaling shares what’s headed to the small screen this season.

STUNNING: 129 of the most beautiful movie shots in history.

TO BINGE OR NOT TO BINGE?: How do you consume television shows these days?

COOK SHORTAGE: Good cooks are getting harder to come by.

YIKES: What happens in your body one hour after drinking Coke.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

china through the looking glass

This past weekend and week flew by! Graduation festivities will do that to you. To unwind a bit after the back-to-back events, I went to see The Met’s China: Through the Looking Glass, and it was a stunning exhibition (photo above). If you’re in NYC this summer it’s worth visiting. Monday is Memorial Day – remember to honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. And now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

SAYING GOODBYE: To David Letterman. Letterman’s final Late Show aired on Wednesday, and it was celeb-filled.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: To Nora Ephron. The beloved writer and director would have been 74 on May 19th. To remember her, 12 ways she taught us to be better women.

READ: I finished Luckiest Girl Alivlate last week (it took me two days – I couldn’t put it down). Reese Witherspoon will be turning it into a movie.

WATCH: This movie looks so good.

WES ANDERSON: How well do you know his style? I got 65% – I clearly have some more Wes Anderson movies to watch.

HELPFUL: How to read a recipe.

Have a nice weekend!

The snow just keeps on falling, and nothing sounds better than curling up under a blanket with loads of snacks and watching movies all day long. Daylight savings is this weekend and I couldn’t be more ready for brighter evenings. Spring is near (even though it certainly doesn’t feel like it). As long as I have a matcha latte (a new discovery!) by my side, everything will be okay. And now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* When Harry Met Sally and glorious New York City.

* Rethinking season strategy when it comes to movie releases.

* If you’re stuck at the airport this snowy season, these are the best ones to be stuck at.

* This may be the most impressive apple pie I’ve ever seen.

* A great article for you Wes Anderson fans.

* Larry David’s humor is everything.

Have a warm weekend!

popsicle

Okay, so I made the executive decision not to see The Fault in Our Stars in theaters, but I did watch Orange is the New Black and it was everything I could have wanted and more. I need Season 3 now. I mini-binged and it was worth every hour. Popsicle season has started, and I enjoyed a Strawberry & Basil pop at last weekend’s Farmer’s Market (photo above). Popsicles are a perfect sweet substitute when ice cream feels too heavy for a hot day. Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Takayo Kiyota’s sushi art is so impressive.

* Reuse your plastic bread tags. These are some great ideas.

* I’m on Instagram! Follow for all things food and film.

* How Netflix is changing our brains.

* Alfred Hitchcock’s San Francisco.

* Once again, ladies and gentleman, Mindy Kaling.

* An Amy Poehler and Tina Fey movie? Yes please!

* Drink pairings for the Game of Thrones characters.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Japanese Candy and Vogue -1

I am officially back from my brief hiatus, and it feels great! I have missed blogging. This has been a busy week with work and errands, but the weekend promises a little bit of relaxation and fun. There are some great movies coming out that I will need to make time to see, including The Bling Ring, The Internship, and Now You See Me, just to name a few. I’m also looking forward to a nice Sunday celebrating Father’s Day! How will you be celebrating? For now, though, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Japanese candy and Vogue for a jet lagged afternoon [photo above]. More photos from Japan coming next week!

* Helena Bonham Carter looking fabulous as Elizabeth Taylor.

* Last Thursday (June 6) was the 15th anniversary of the premiere of Sex and the City.

* Adorable mini-meals for cocktail hour.

* 42 of the greatest quotes from Arrested Development.

* Fun conversation starters for friends, provided by Mindy Kaling.

* This Kickstarter for a documentary about New Yorker cartoonists looks awesome.

Have a fantastic weekend and Happy Father’s Day!

This was a great food week. From discovering new restaurants to munching on sweet treats, I love a week that involves trying new food. While I spent a lot of time eating, I haven’t had the time to catch up on my T.V. shows or any movies, so I’m hoping this weekend will involve some down time to veg out on the couch. Until that breather, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Obsessed with the design on these chocolate wrappers.

Compartes Chocolate wrappers

* Tried Drew Barrymore’s wine for the first time.

* Loved these mini fonuts – post coming next week!

Mini Fonuts

* Hiking on a cloudy morning.

* SNL skits about food.

* Which candy bar is your favorite?

Happy February! February is the month of footballs, purple and green beads, red and pink hearts, birthday cakes, and the celebration of a new year (Chinese New Year!). There are many great things to look forward to this month, and each event is so different that the days will fly by. Bring it on, February, we’re ready for all that you have to offer.

In the meantime, wrapping up the week with a recap

* After reading The Night Circus, I am loving all things circus-related, including these Vintage Circus Napkins.

* Prepare for the Super Bowl this weekend with some New Orleans-inspired snacks!

* I love this golden banana bowl.

* For when you 1) don’t have time to make a whole back of chocolate chip cookies and 2) only want a quick snack and 3) are feeling selfish and don’t want to share.

* If you are in New York City or Los Angeles, go see Girls Against Boys! It’s a limited release, for now.

* I am having a crepe moment (photo above).

* Such a great article re: the Oscars. I can’t wait to see Seth MacFarlane’s opening monologue…

* The Anne Hathaway parody of ‘I Dreamed a Dream.’

* Oh, high school…these celebrities’ high school yearbook photos are hilarious.

* Cute Valentine’s Day DIY.

Have a great (Super Bowl) weekend!
